Double your vacation fun! Lincoln City is famous
for its fabulous sandy ocean beaches and for Devil’s Lake. “The Steelhead”
lets you take advantage of both. Located on Devil’s Lake Lagoon, and just a
couple of hundred yards from Lincoln City’s most famous beach at the ‘D’ River,
this architect-designed and built vacation getaway brings together
ultra-contemporary design with the rustic feel of a mountain lakeside cabin.
Steel, wood, glass, and stone are melded to create a feeling of spaciousness
and moderninity with a soothing atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
We thought it could have been called “Peaceful Harbor,” because its location
on the Devil’s Lake Lagoon is so peaceful. But it’s called “The Steelhead.”
Its name celebrates both the steel on which and with which it’s built, and
the fish so avidly sought in nearby waters.
Whether relaxing by the wood burning fireplace, or on the 600 square foot
mahogany deck, or taking the house canoe out for a spin (or would that be
“for a paddle!”), you will understand why guests want to return again and
again to this special vacation getaway.
If its ocean you want, it’s just a short stroll to Lincoln City’s finest
beach, where the ‘D’ River runs into the Pacific. The ‘D’ River is the
world’s shortest river, by the way. This beach is the location for kite
flying, sandcastle building, rubber ducky racing, and all the other activities
you associate with a visit to the ocean on the central Oregon coast.
All the other attractions of the coast are virtually at your doorstep.
Excellent restaurants, shops, antique stores, surfing, the outlet mall,
Chinook Winds Casino, wine tasting, lighthouses, and more beckon you.
And capping off all this is the pleasure of starting and ending your getaway
days at the coast in the cozy comfort of The Steelhead. |

Design and Craftsmanship |
|
|
Connoisseurs of fishing prize the steelhead. Connoisseurs
of vacations prize “The Steelhead”. This is a property for those who appreciate the very best.
Architect-designed and built by Quartertwenty, one of the northwest’s finest design and construction
firms, this is anything but a cookie cutter house. The designers melded steel, mahogany and other
fine woods, stone, Travertine tile and glass in an artistic plan that they then executed and built
flawlessly, creating a home that is cozy, comfortable, convenient, and beautiful. While definitely
not large, at about 1500 square feet, no space is wasted, and the feel is like being on a high class
sailing yacht—compact, but comfortable and relaxing.
As you enter you are struck by the beauty
of the materials used in construction. The exterior view as you arrived was your first clue that this
is a house apart from all others. Built on steel supports, it reminds you a little of a ship. The
mahogany deck signals the quality you will find inside. Hardwood floors gleam, the pride in workmanship
throughout shows the care taken in building and furnishing this wonderful place.

Lving Room |
|
|
The living room is dominated by corner windows overlooking Devil’s
Lake Lagoon. There is even a hint of ocean view—but why strain? Whether for a romantic getaway or a family vacation,
this room will enhance your visit here. Whatever the time of year you’ll be comfortable and cozy in front of the
wood burning fireplace. The sofa is a queen sofa sleeper. All of the seating is chosen for comfort. Even the
coffee table adds to the feeling of solid comfort; it’s a giant slab of wood that also lends a solidity to the
room you’ll appreciate. Whether you prefer browsing the books in the house library, or TV watching, or just
the warmth of the fireplace and conversation, this is a room you will enjoy spending time in. There are games
and puzzles to delight children and add quality to your family time. |
|
|
Kitchen and Dining Room |
|
|
Walk down a short hallway, reminiscent of a ship’s passageway,
and you’ll find a kitchen designed for efficiency and convenience. Wide open counter spaces and top of the
line appliances make kitchen chores a pleasure. The kitchen is fully furnished; all you need to bring is
food and drink.
The dining table will seat 8.
The kitchen and dining area are light and inviting, with windows and doors opening onto the property’s beautiful deck. |
|
|
Downstairs 1/2 Bath |
|
|
Located off the main downstairs hallway is a half-bath. |
|
|
Master Bedroome |
|
|
All the bedrooms are upstairs, and the stairs remind you of a
ship’s rigging. The master bedroom looks out over the lagoon with large windows admitting plentiful light,
even on less than sunny days. The slider opens onto another deck that runs along all the upstairs bedrooms,
with an even better hint of ocean view. The queen bed is relaxing and restful.
Adjacent to the master
bedroom, the master bathroom is a gorgeous study in the use of tile, glass, and wood. Seldom will you see a
tub and shower done so artfully. The window and skylight enhance the experience. Your feet will love the
comfort of the heated floor in this beautiful bathroom.
A starter supply of soap, shampoo, lotion,
and paper products is provided in all the bathrooms for your comfort. |
|
|
Second Bedroom |
|
|
Just down the hallway, the second bedroom will accommodate 2 persons
with a comfortable queen bed. Its décor includes a TV, skylight and slider access to the upstairs deck. The
skylight and slider capture the light and the room hints at Native American influences in its minimalism. |
|
|
Third Bedroom |
|
|
At the opposite end of the house and hallway from the master bedroom,
this is like a second master bedroom. This is an amazing room! The queen bed is large and comfortable.
The skylight adds a cheerful light. The slider to the deck brings in more light. But what takes you by
surprise is the beautiful shower and half bath. It’s hard to describe how innovative and attractive the
shower is. It’s a double shower, enclosed with Travertine tile and glass—except the door is a half door!
Once again, the use of windows to capture light adds tremendously to your enjoyment of this space. There
is a sense of wonder at the creativity displayed here. This may be the bedroom everyone wants. |
|
|
Upstairs Half Bath |
|
|
Bedrooms two and three share a half bath off the upstairs hallway
with a toilet and lavatory. |
|
|
Washer and Dryer |
|
|
A stacked washer and dryer are located in the
upstairs hallway for your convenience. A starter supply of laundry detergent and dryer sheets is provided. |
|
|
The Decks |
|
|
Have we mentioned, this fabulous getaway has two decks?
The upper deck is like a landing walkway on a ship and is accessed by each of the three bedrooms.
The main
deck is fabulous! Built of mahogany, and about 600 square feet, it runs the length of the house and overlooks
the Devil’s Lake Lagoon. It’s a great spot for sipping your morning coffee or a late nightcap, or dining al
fresco, or for just sitting and watching the ducks and other birds swimming in the lagoon. It’s peaceful here,
and you can feel the cares of the everyday world melting away.
The deck is also a good place to plan your canoe trip in the house canoe. Imagine paddling around the lagoon
or up the ‘D’ River to Devil’s Lake. What a blast! |

Other Activities |
|
|
You can enjoy a variety of other activities on the
central coast. Of course, there is the ocean. You can walk to the beach from The Steelhead.
In addition,
Lincoln City offers great shopping with a variety of small shops and the outlet mall. There are restaurants to
please nearly any taste (some folks just can’t be pleased!) Chinook Winds Casino offers gaming, buffet dining,
and headliner entertainment. You’re just a short drive from world class wineries and wine tasting.
The Steelhead is particularly well located for watching the Nelscott Reef Surfing competition. And there are
additional surfing locations up and down the central coast.
You can explore lighthouses, go beachcombing,
or just sit and watch the waves. Of course, you can also watch the whales.
There are golf courses to challenge any skill level.
Day trips to Tillamook, to see the cheese factory are fun. So are visits to Depoe Bay, “The Whale Watching
Capital” with the “Worlds Smallest Harbor,” or to Newport with its intriguing Bayfront and Oregon Aquarium,
former home of Kieko of “Free Willy” fame.
Whatever your favorite activity, and where ever your daytrips
take you, you’ll look forward to returning to The Steelhead at the end of the day. |
